Found History

Phew!

That's all I can say. I happened to find my family history documentation that has been passed down to me, and I thought was lost. Luckily it was just misplaced. More to the point, the bound pages were placed inside an empty binder then put on a shelf full of other empty binders. So all my previous searches for this skipped past the "empty" binders.

This is an important thing to me. It has long been my goal to get the information contained in there up onto a family website. That information had been painstakingly collected by my great aunt in the early 1980's before her death, and only a few copies of the details had been made. This covers the history of my family back into the early or mid 1800's. In the big picture, that's not too far back, but there is sooo much more in there than just names and relationships. The "tale" of the family is told - from the period where they emigrated to Canada.

I am so relieved. I was so worried I had lost this. I did not want to tell my mother I had lost it. She would have skinned me alive. (after all, she passed it to me for safe keeping). In terms of value, the paper and such is probably worth less than $10. In terms of the labor that went into generating it, we're probably looking at thousands of dollars in time. In terms of sentimental value - it is priceless and cannot be easily replaced.

So, in the (hopefully) not too distant future, I can get this information online as is, and then the family can begin to fill in the blanks of the past 20 some years.
