Inkscape presentation

CLUG recently asked me if I could do a presentation on some topic. I said "of course!" and selected Inkscape as the subject. For those not in the know, Inkscape is a free, cross platform vector graphics tool that is great for creating images from scratch. It is useful for logos, web images (buttons, themes, etc.), as well as more mundane things such as signs, banners, and business cards. Or any image you can think of, you can probably do in Inkscape.

As always, I try to make my presentation files available after the presentation is done, so here it is:

This is a compressed file containing the Open Office presentation, as well as the supporting files we worked with during the hands-on portion of the presentation.

As an added bonus, I was asked if Inkscape could make snow-globes. You know, those balls of clear glass with some scene inside, turn em up side down then right side up and it starts snowing.... I know it could be done, but tonight I was sitting here watching some videos on Inkscape (check out YouTube - search for Inkscape). One of the videos just happend to cover how to make a nice gradient with a circle, and it struck me that the 3D-ish effect it made could be the start of a snow-globe. So I had to try to make one.

Here's the results:

(here's the SVG file).

I need to give some credit here though. The snowflakes, the igloo, and and the sonic like figuring of Tux the penguin all were found at the Open Clipart Gallery. I can proudly say the rest of the image should be fully blamed on, er, attributed to me...

So yes, you CAN create a snow-globe!

Enjoy the presentation - hope it helps someone!
